Vaca frita

The vaca frita is an easy dish to prepare, one of the tastiest in Cuba and a classic of its cuisine.

It is very similar to old clothes, only some ingredients change.


  • 1 kilo of beef
  • 1 cup broth cooked veal
  • 2 olive oil
  • 2 medium onions cut in julienne
  • The juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 green pepper cut in julienne
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • Ground black pepper
  • Salt



1- Put the veal in a pot and let it cook for about an hour and a half. If you do it in a pressure cooker it would be about 40 minutes

2- Wait until it cools a little, remove the meat from the pot and crumble it with the help of forks or your fingers removing the fat and bones if you have.

3- Take advantage of the broth by putting it and keeping a cup

4- Put salt and pepper

5- Heat the olive oil and add the previously mashed garlic in a mortar

6- Add the onion and pepper until golden brown

7- Put the meat and mix well over high heat.

8- Pour the lemon juice and stir once in a while

9- Put the broth and let it cook until it evaporates

10- The meat has to brown, it must be fried

11- Once the fire is done and let it cook covered between 5 and 8 minutes

12- You can accompany it with white rice and fried plantains
